Creating a Route Template

Route Template Blueprint

A Route Template Blueprint is used for setting up details of a new route to be created. In order to place a route at specific Long/Lat coordinates rather than using ones already supplied with Train Simulator, this is where it is done.

Once exported, this Route Template Blueprint will appear in Train Simulator in the New Route 'Templates' list from which you can select and create your new route.

Described here, are the details of each field in this blueprint and which ones you need to edit for your chosen route.

To start, you must load the Blueprint Editor. This can be found in the Train Simulator installation folder, by default, this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks. Navigate to this folder and then double-click BlueprintsEditor2.exe to launch the Blueprint Editor.

If you have already set up a Provider & Product set, you will see these listed in the tree window on the left. Continue the instructions below.

If you only see one yellow box called 'Source Files' and no list below it, you will first need to add a Provider & Product set.

Creating a new Route Template Blueprint

  1. Right-click on your Product folder and select 'New Folder'
  2. Call this folder "TemplateRoutes". The folder icon will now change to a small blue Y shape. This indicates that Train Simulator has recognised a known folder type. A list of recognisable folder names can be found here.
  3. Right-click on this new Template Routes folder and select 'New Blueprint'. This will open a window of all available blueprint types that can be created.
  4. Scroll down the list until you find 'Route Blueprint'. Select it and press OK.
  5. The blueprint will be loaded and its name will be ready for editing. It is recommended that you name a route blueprint with the name of the route it is intended for, to allow for easy tracking in case you want to make changes.
